Additional gaps in the corners of the base offer drainage, and one side panel swings upward to seasonally clean the roost. Its natural, yellowish hue and top gaps prevent nestlings from overheating, and a metal hanger on the back aids in mounting the home. As woodpeckers regularly excavate cavities in decaying trees, the nest box also includes a generous bag of wood shavings to better attract these birds and encourage their natural tendencies.
